Question #1 : If my partner or roommate(s) want to borrow tools on my account, is this possible?

Answer: Our individual memberships are only for one (1) person. Since each member is financially responsible for all tools borrowed, all borrowers must have their own individual account.

Question #2: What about returns? Can my partner or roommate(s) return tools for me?

Answer: Yes! There are no restrictions on who can return tools. Please note that the person returning the tools, if different from the member, will not be allowed to borrow new tools.

Question #3: How do I renew tools for an additional week?

Answer: Some tools are not renewable, due to high demand and limited tool availability. Please give us a call during our open hours to double check renewal eligibility for specific tools. Renewals are ONLY processed in-person (meaning yourself in-person, not the tools) at the tool library for accounts in good standing (i.e. no outstanding late fees or balances).

Late tools cannot be renewed unless the late fees are paid in full prior to the renewal.

Question #4: What if I cannot return my tools on-time? Do you make exceptions for late tools?

Answer: All loans have a 24h grace period. Most tools have a late fee of $1/tool/day, but some high value/high demand tools have a late fee of $5/tool/day. The late fee will never exceed the total value of the tool.

Our front desk librarians will consider all special circumstances related to late tools, including sickness and other unplanned emergencies. Our goal is to get tools returned as soon as possible, so that other members can borrow them!

Question #5: What about loans that are due back on holidays? Or if I attempt to return tools and the library is closed?

Answer: If your loan is due on a holiday or if our Library is closed unexpectedly, you are able to return the tools with no late fees the following day. If you do not return them the following day, you will begin to accrue late fees.
